Back in the day, there was only one way to size images for Instagram. Everything was 1080x1080px, take it or leave it. This was until Instagram decided to give creators a few more options. Now you can post images to Instagram as the classic square (1080×1080), landscape, or portrait. These newer additions to the dimensions roster are great, but do you know how to make the most of them? Read on to learn more about the three posting options.

Square: Centered orientation, 1080x1080px
Portrait: Vertical orientation, 1080x1350px
Landscape: Horizontal orientation, 1080x608px
Square: The dimensions for the perfect Instagram square are 1080x1080x. These squares are good for content that is highly visual and contains little graphic additions like text. If you are creating one piece of content to share across all social media, I typically use traditional sizing because it is widely accepted across platforms.
Portrait: Instagram portrait offers users the option to include more of an image or post that favors vertical orientation. This is especially helpful if you are trying to show off a member of your team in a traditional posed picture, practice specific focusing, or have a lot of information that needs to be shared. Remember, just because there is more room, it doesn’t mean you have to fill it with heavy text or overload on graphics. Instagram portrait sizing is 1080x1350px.
Landscape: Have a piece of content that is horizontal? Instagram landscape is your answer. Instagram landscape dimensions are 1080×608. As with the portrait sizing, landscape orientation gives users more space to work with while also serving as a way to visually breakup feeds.
